The Girl In The Gap Academy was founded by Dr. La Tarsha J. Stallworth, a technology leader, educator, and advocate for digital equity. After spending years working in the information technology field and teaching computer science in higher education, Dr. Stallworth witnessed a growing gap between those who have access to technology education and those who do not.
Throughout her career, she observed that many young people—especially girls and students from underserved communities—had limited exposure to computer programming, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technology fields. While the demand for technology professionals continues to grow across the nation, many students lack the resources, mentorship, and opportunities needed to explore these careers early in life.
Dr. Stallworth recognized that access to technology education should not be determined by zip code, income level, or opportunity. She saw firsthand how early exposure to coding, digital literacy, and technology pathways can change the trajectory of a student’s future.
Motivated by both her professional experience and her commitment to community impact, she created The Girl In The Gap Academy to serve as a bridge between curiosity and opportunity.
The Academy’s mission is simple but powerful: to bridge the technology gap by providing accessible technology education, workforce development opportunities, and career pathways for youth and underserved communities.
Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and innovative programs, TGITGA introduces students to coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other in-demand technology skills. The goal is not only to teach students how to use technology, but also to empower them to become creators, innovators, and future leaders in the digital economy.
The Girl In The Gap Academy believes that every student deserves the opportunity to explore their potential and gain the skills necessary to thrive in a technology-driven world.
By combining education, mentorship, and community partnerships, TGITGA is working to create a future where technology education is accessible, inclusive, and transformative for the next generation.
